An acne treatment is needed if you have blemished skin, especially when the skin is constantly irritated with new pimples.

Looking for a treatment for acne can be a confusing process, because there are many ingredients in the products that appear to be effective - but they can actually cause negative side effects and other problems when they are used.

Here at Healthy Skin Guide, we have spent a lot of time and effort researching the various methods of treatment for acne, and we have discovered that there are certain products that should be avoided because they either aren't as effective as they claim, or the side effects outweigh the benefits.

Products to Avoid

The ingredients and products that should be avoided include:

  • Retin-A: Medical professionals discovered that vitamin A might be a factor in acne development, so Retin-A was created to treat acne with high levels of vitamin A that break up the collected oils and skin cells in a plugged hair follicle and prevent new plugs from forming. The side effects can be severe, and they may include increased sensitivity of the skin, swelling, severe burning, redness, crusting, and/or blistering. Also, people with dark skin should avoid this product, because it may cause the skin to become discolored.
  • Benzoyl Peroxide: Many of the most popular treatments for acne contain an ingredient called benzoyl peroxide, which may help to reduce the sebum production and prevent the growth of bacteria. The problem with this ingredient is that it may cause side effects such as rashes, scaly patches, blistering, redness, and skin irritation. Also, this ingredient can bleach hair and cause discoloration if it comes in contact with any fabric.
  • Salicylic Acid: This ingredient is one of the safer medication based acne treatment options available, although there are still side effects associated with using this product. Salicylic acid works by opening pores that have been clogged, and getting rid of the accumulated dead skin cells in the hair follicle area. The side effects may be peeling skin, redness, and burning. This acid is so strong, that some people actually use it to treat warts.
  • Accutane: One of the strongest, and most controversial, treatments for acne is Accutane which can be an option for people suffering from very severe acne. When this acne treatment is used, the production of sebum is inhibited... but there are numerous side effects that may occur. These side effects include things such as nosebleeds, joint pain, itching, dry nose, dry mouth, cracked lips, and severe drying of the skin. Additionally, pregnant women should not use this product because it can cause birth defects.
As you can see, there are a number of negative side effects that can occur when these products are used. Why would someone want to clear up their acne, only to experience other skin problems such as peeling, blistering, and burning?

Natural Acne Remedies

Instead of depending on these harsh acne products, it is better to opt for natural ingredients that will work with the natural oil production of your skin to get rid of the acne problems without the negative side effects. There are many natural acne treatment products on the market, but they are not all as effective as advertised.

If you are looking for the best treatment for acne, we suggest using the Zenmed Acne Treatment Kit.
